Friday

It turned out to be a driving day! This park was the nicest state park I've ever stayed at. It has showers and laundry. And it is very pretty. It looks like we are staying in on a Christmas tree farm.

This morning we woke up and got showers. Then the kids and I took a walk by the river while Dan worked. The river was beautiful. The salmon are running, but we didn't see any. There were tons of blackberries everywhere. I mean this place is over run with them! The boys are eating them like crazy and we aren't the only ones. I saw a couple people with a bag going along the hedges of them. We found out that flower petals always grow in prime numbers. Did you know that? 3, 5, 7, 11, 13...crazy. Then we had to talk about what a prime number is.

When we got back we packed up to leave our spot, but Dan had another call to be on for work. We stopped at the rest stop next door. We had lunch and went for a walk. We found a ton more blackberries and talked some people. We read all the signs around and found out about the "Trail of Tears" and the "Rogue" is another word for savages. And that you could get square mile of free land from the government in 1850 if you were married. And that would be 640 acres.

Dan was done so we moved on and drove and drove and drove. And we had to get gas and there was a guy pumping gas! I know, you told me Dad, but this was crazy. If you hadn't told me I would have thought some homeless guy was hustling for tips. Crazy.

We saw all kinds of animals and farms, including a herd of YAKS! We arrived at the KOA by Salem around 7pm and were freaked out by the dead mini-amusement park that we had to drive into. The KOA is behind it. It is just a bit creepy here. But so far the people are really nice.

We had a gas station here in Fullerton that pumped your gas for you & cleaned your windshields until about 6 months ago when they added a mini-mart. They did it all the time - if it was busy then they would make sure the women got it done at least.

As long as there were no dead clowns at the dead amusement park.

You're making me home sick. :-) I miss the wild blackberries. Growing up we had them around almost everywhere we lived.

Sounds like you guys are having a great trip. :-)

Looks like Jake was between a rock and a hard place.
